Wildfire Mitigation & Water Conservation

Wildfire Mitigation and Water Conservation Tips

Residents in Louviers should take extra precautions to reduce the risk of fire. There are no current fire restrictions in Douglas County; however, a hot, dry spell could elevate wildfire risk.

Register your mobile devices to get emergency alerts from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at DougCoAlert.com. This system replaces CodeRed and even if you registered for CodeRed previously, you must re-register in the new system.

Mitigate your own property and work with your neighbors on community mitigation efforts. Mitigation requires continuous effort but can pay off immensely when fires threaten. It's this simple - reducing the amount of fuel on your property will make your property more defensible and more survivable because removing fuel lowers a fire's intensity. Download a checklist of actions you can take.

To help protect your home and community:
• Keep defensible space by clearing dry grass, leaves, and debris within at least 30 feet of structures
• Install Class A fire-rated roofing (metal, tile, asphalt shingles)
• Use ember-resistant vents
• Clean gutters and roofs regularly
• Avoid parking vehicles on dry vegetation and use grills and fire features only as allowed—never leave them unattended.

Stay alert, report smoke to 911 immediately, and follow all posted restrictions to reduce wildfire risk.
