Winter weather alert: Tips to prevent frozen pipes
Tips to prevent frozen pipes
Open cabinet doors underneath sinks to allow the warm air in the house to keep pipes warm.
Find the faucet farthest from where water enters the house and let it drip - this will allow the water to move through the pipes and may reduce the chance of freezing.
Check that all external hoses are unhooked.
What to do if a pipe is frozen
If a pipe has already frozen, shut off the water to the house before starting to thaw the pipe to prevent any potential flooding if the pipe has been damaged or has burst.
Use a hair dryer or a space heater to blow warm air and thaw the ice inside the pipes. Do not use high heat as it may damage the pipes.
